Why IDN

Many types of domains practically scream that they can make you money, but IDNs are rather conservative as their use is still very new. The potential for decent profit, though, is very real. When you buy a domain name like Widget.com or something similar you’ll have traffic from English speaking regions. However, buying Widget.com in Chinese or Arabic taps a part of the internet market previously off limits to you and opens up a large new market for you. It’s not an effortless profit, by any means, but nothing worth having is ever free. And even people who speak fluent English as a second language much prefer to use their native tongue whenever possible.

Russia and China are prime markets to target; due to their large populations they’re considered ideal IDN potential. Russians in particular are very enthusiastic about Western merchandise, which are some of the most highly prized black market goods because of their lack of availability. American made goods are also popular in China where the young people are very fashion conscious as they explore their growing freedom. Japan is a Mecca for American fashion merchandise; a single pair of American made Levi blue jeans can go for as much as five hundred dollars on the street! Of course, Spanish and French are also good for a start, as the words “net” and “com” are the same there as in English.

One or several IDNs are well worth the initial investment and will return much more than you think, whether you’re looking for human contact, corporate profits or you’re trying to increase the revenues of a small business. Formerly, merchandisers had to depend on auction sites and bloggers and forum masters could only hope that English-speaking people in foreign countries would stumble across their site and contribute. By having an IDN, you gain instant access to a large percentage of the world’s population that otherwise would never have known your site existed since they do not speak English as a second language.
